NEW ZEALAND "New Zealand was wonderful! Pete and I are really glad that we decided on the "tour". There were so many places that we visited that we would never have gone if we had been on our own. Also, the bus driver was an absolute wealth of knowledge and we learned a lot about the country that we probably wouldn't have taken the time to learn by reading the books we bought. Our only concern was that with such a large group, there might be some people who were difficult to get along with or chronically late, etc. etc. You know what I mean....how often do you end up with 40+ people who all get along. Well, that's exactly what we experienced! Everyone was fun, considerate, congenial. They were from England, Australia, Denmark, US and Canada. We met so many really nice and friendly people and everyone got along! We ended up exchanging addresses and e-mail addresses with lots of people who we just didn't want to lose track of. We had an absolutely wonderful time. If anyone you are working with would like to talk to someone who recently visited, we'd be glad to answer any of their questions or tell them about our experiences. SELF-DRIVE NEW ZEALAND/AUSTRALIA "You planned our trip so well and it was really customized to meet our preferences. Starting with the Air New Zealand flight, our trip went flawlessly. We even beat the rainy weather as we traveled from town to town. Thanks for suggesting we do the self-drives. Tom adapted very quickly to the left-hand driving, and the traffic was pretty light compared to what we are used to. The south & east coast drives were great, and the selection of towns and hotels were very good. The drive times were perfect, short enough to allow us to do sightseeing along the way and still see the attractions of the towns. It was always a fun surprise to see what the town and accommodation for the day were going to be. The hotel mix was good. There were a couple of outdated, funky Comfort Inns (Naracoorte and Mermaid Beach), but there were some really pleasant surprises, too. The Reef Retreat in Palm Cove (n. Cairns) was beautiful, the hotels in Tweedshead, Sydney and Adelaide and the Comfort Inn in Port Fairy were excellent. I really liked the Comfort Inn in Coff's Harbor, too - it had real charm and very nice managers. Thanks for steering us away from Surfer's Paradise along the Gold Coast. Two days/nights on the Gold Coast were enough (it looked too much like Cancun or Miami Beach), but the beaches and water were great. We saw a lot of wildlife (actually in the wild) - koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, an echidna, emus, parrots, a bush turkey, flocks of cockatoos, etc. The highlight for Tom was the Australian Open and for me, tropical Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. This is the first time we have traveled in a foreign country this way. We never take group tours, but it was really nice having rental cars, prebooked flights and hotels and an excellent well-planned itinerary. It was so nice, in fact. we are recommending this trip to all our friends and I have given your name to a couple who is also interested in traveling to Australia. Australia is really user friendly and it so much better to see by car than by trains and buses. Our New Zealand arrangements were great, too, although the hotel on Lake Tekapo has definitely seen better days. However, who spends time in hotel rooms when there are such gorgeous sights to see! Although we have travel extensively the world over, we both agreed this was the best trip ever for the ease of travel, the diversity in sightseeing and the well-planned itinerary. PRAGUE " You did a fantastic job! We loved the hotel! It was perfect, small, quaint, and all the amenities. What a perfect location. The driver was there meeting us with a sign and the GUIDE was awesome!. Joe had train problems but the 3 of them arrived at 10 am at the designated spot and our private guide was tremendous. Great English, funny, had tonsof historical info but also had some great stories that made us feel like we had hooked up with a friend rather than a guide. Her name is Marketa Masova. I would recommend her highly if you can request her for other travelers. She really was the highlight.
